Big Bear, my friends.

You can't beat altitude training in Big Bear, CA.  It is the best Southern CA has to offer, and les and I certainly felt it today!

Business/Adventure Cards
It is our goal to hand these out to any and everyone we meet along the road.

But before we rode, we camped.
But, apparently you can't just camp ANYWHERE...and if you are interested, les and I have a funny story to tell you.  Email us at tourtheus@gmail.com and we'll tell it to you!

les sporting the head lamp--an essential in pitching a tent at night time.
We rolled into this campground pretty late, and we pitched our tent, rolled out our bags, etc. just to get a feel for what sporadic camping will be like on our tour...

Yep, now I have the head lamp. Go me. Woo.
The tent itself is a 2-man, and its 3.5 pounds and set up-able in about 5 minutes, so that's a definite plus.  This is me enjoying the luxurious life...yeeuh.

Breakfast
Take note kids, this has a whopping 710 calories!  Pure, greasy, energy!
We actually had oatmeal and an assortment of other things, but a couple muffins snuck their way into our daily diets.  The truth is that when you need energy calories are "calories," and many cyclists have been known for popping M&M's and/or other high fat/sugar items.

Semi's love us.
It is an inevitability that fat, ugly semi-trucks drive around in beautiful Big Bear--a place where only bicycles, sunlight, and snow ought to exist.

Yep.
McDonalds put it best: i'm lovin' it.

8,o00 ft. marker.
After a short cruise around the lake, and then some, we decided to head out to Barton flats, which ended up being a 2,000 ft. climb in the beginning, a rapid 1,500 drop, and then us turning around and riding back up!  I remember yelling really loudly when that downhill wouldn't stop going down hill.  Again, email us if you want to know the exact word I yelled...

2.1 seconds to lose everything off the back of my bike
When we finished I lost no time in taking apart my stuff so that we could get home...we were tiiiired!

the end.
