Rockies...pssh, ain't no thing!

Just about to ride after resting well at the Gaylord family house in Telluride

Day 11 - Telluride to Montrose, CO

If I believed in being jynxed, then I think the title of today's blog would come back to bite us!

While day two of the Rockies consisted of one enormous downhill, a decent uphill, and another relatively downhill stretch (thus translating to the novice rider that the Rockies surely "ain't no thing" (or "thang," whichever you prefer)), the next two days (at least) of our tour will see plenty of uphill riding.

We literally passed 2,000 riders heading the other direction for the annual Bicycle Tour of Colorado (BTC).  Here are a bunch of bikes laid out at Dallas Divide Summit.

Oh friends, we keep saying things like, "the Rockies are why we are here!"  They are incredible, like apple french toast (aaron), or Hamlet (les).  To be honest, we hardly notice the climbs we make because the mountains surrounding us are so beautiful.

Incredible mountains.  Incredible cyclist.  Haha.

Probably the only bummer is that we still haven't managed to get on a consistent sleeping schedule so we're usually out on the road a little later than is preferred, and so far we've seen rain by early afternoon both days.  Luckily *Thankfully,* {les. edit} we've found little cafes to wait in, and the rain really hasn't been that bad.  It usually comes and goes as fast as the days of our trip feel to us (really fast!).

Aaron's looking to rob a train again.

From Ridgeway to Montrose it is a slowly declining 25 miles, so we weren't too bummed to have found that it literally only took us an hour to get to Montrose.  When the conditions are just right, riding is perfect (tail wind, gradual downhill, plenty of rest, etc.).

An excellent downhill awaited us after our only climb of the day

We were fortunate enough to receive another place to stay for the evening while in Montrose.  The last four nights we've had showers, incredible right?  Yes it is.  Scott and Jenny Shine, fellow athletes and US tourists (they totally rode 5,000 miles around the country on a tandem (a two-person bicycle!)), and they were more than happy to let us shower, come to a Bible study with them, eat, sleep, etc.  Thank you both so very much!

You MUST watch this video!

Farewell for now!

Donald Miller (author of Blue Like Jazz) tours the country too! But why?

Please think about supporting Don and his team as they tour the country and raise funds for wells in Uganda.
