EEEEEads.

Carbon copy this image 12 billion times,
cycle for a few hours,
and you've got yourself Kansas.

Day 17 - Boone to Eads, CO - 90 Miles

Our day began along highway 96, as we enjoyed some cold oatmeal (we didn't feel like heating up the stove), packed up and pushed off.  Our first rest came in Orley Springs, CO, when our stretching session was interrupted by five local tough guys.  Riding in on their bikes, these little fellas told us everything we needed to know about Orley: (1) a rat ran under my grandma's house today, (2) "i can sing a song about superman," and (3) don't drink the tap water...it'll make you throw up.  That's about all we needed to hear, as we headed East, trying not to drink from our water bottles until the next city.

The meanest biker gang in Orley Springs, CO

They do some strange things in Kansas...like park on the front lawn.

For lunch we stopped in Haswell, CO.  We cannot verify that anyone actually lived there, but we did find a park and one convenience store.  In fact, it was the best convenience store in town - won business of the year.  We thought this to be a little slighted, since it was the only business in town.  Anyway, we bought a cold gatorade and hit up the park, where we took a breezy nap, ate some lunch and played on the playground.

Slurping down a can of corn for lunch.

This strange building has a sign that says,
"Not responsible in case of accidents"

We began to understand what accidents may ensue here...

Les decided to ditch the bike and just ride a whale to New York

A gas station store served as our dinner stop, where we indulged in pizza we promised ourselves.  It took mere minutes to devour the 12" frozen tombstone, but it was delicious.  We rolled over to the city park, washed off in some sprinklers that were running, set up the tent and went to bed.  We slept great, except for when powerful and sporadic thunder storms drenched our tent.  This continued from dark until midnight, until a nice maintenance man came and turned off the sprinklers/storm for us.  What a nice man.

Our home for the night.
