...and this is why we ride!

Indiana, our eighth state line. Also, Lincoln's boyhood home.

Day 25  -  Albion, IL to Birdseye, IN  -  80 Miles

Except for the coal trucks, and two lane-high way with its teeny shoulder, the ride was an absolutely beautiful one. Today we crossed the Illinois state line into Indiana today and smiled at the fact that we were one state closer to our destination.

Crossing the bridge

This is in Princeton, Indiana.  For about 2 seconds we both thought we had come across Princeton, Princeton.  As in, the school.  We had not.

Rolling hills.  Overcast sky.  Cyclist heaven.

Need to find a place for those beans...perfect

We took a longer break in Huntinburg, which has absolutely no wi-fi, despite 9 fast food joints, 2 grocery stores, a public library (that was closed!), and 3 or 4 gas stations. We thought surely in a town this large (and truly, by mid-west standards, this is a larger town), we could find some internet access to finally update our faithful following…but alas.

The rolling hills and desperately longed for tail wind made today an absolutely perfect day.  As we pulled in to Birdseye, IN, we found a Baptist church that was giving out canned food.  We asked if they might know anyone who could put us up for the night, since it was expected to thunderstorm.  Jack and Diane (no kidding) Cook happily agreed to let us sleep in their spare trailer.  That is, until we discovered fleas that their past tenants had left behind.  When we alerted our hosts to this predicament, their furnished some nice sleeping pads in Jack's shop.

Our flea-free accommodations

Les and Aaron, with Jack and Diane

Thunder rolled.  Lightning striked.  We ate jumbalaya and slept deeply.

yay!
just like when you two first started and saw the NY street sign, this Princeton was a decoy too... They knew you were coming and were trying to hide the fact that you guys are getting closer!!!

Donald Miller (author of Blue Like Jazz) tours the country too! But why?

Please think about supporting Don and his team as they tour the country and raise funds for wells in Uganda.
