The Derby. The Colonel. The Boa Constrictors?

The light, refreshing rain followed us through the day

Day 26 - Birdseye, IN to Middletown, KY - 80 Miles

We had a great ride today.  The country side is so beautiful and the weather was absolutely cycle-rific.  Along the way, we spotted a cave in the side of a rock mountain and simply had to stop.

From within the Cave of Wonders

A little cave tour anybody?

The cave had rock-climbing and everything

We pressed on, anxious to get to Louisville, KY (pronounced "Lou-a-vil"), so we could use the internet for the first time in 5 days.

Aaron got tired, so les had to pull him up the hill in this bag.

Crossing the Ohio River into Kentucky.

After an extreme ride on the interstate for 9 miles, we were informed by a local that, "You're in Lou-a-vil.  How delightful.  They even had pleasant bike manners.

A cyclist's favorite sign

We left the downtown, which was quite pretty in parts, and headed for the suburbs to find a place to camp.

It's the Big Boy, alright.

Pulling into the first neighborhood after the local Kroger (the east coast's Ralph's grocery store), a motorcyclist rode up and asked if we needed some help.  As it turns out, we did.  And Mike, was able to help us.  He even offered us his backyard where we could put up the tent.  Quite thankful and hungry, we made ourselves some turkey sandwiches on the back patio.  When his wife, Cindy, showed up, they both invited us to stay in Mike's study instead. This way, we could avoid being eaten by the neighbor's boa constrictor that had apparently escaped.  Sounded like a plan to us.  As we went downstairs to put our beds together, we found a plate of cookies and towels for a warm shower.  Thank you, Mike and Cindy.

Delicious Cookies. Gone in seconds.

Our friendly hosts, Mike & Cindy

At any rate, after cookies and a good long conversation about living as a Christian in a world of people scared to death of death, we finally set out for bed and crashed by midnight.  A bit later than usual, but worth every moment.  Waking up tomorrow will be painful.

at times I feel like I'm just racing to your blogs and see if I get the first post on your newest blog. It's almost like an competition. Some other times I just feel like an addict checking on the blog and re-read all the stories and many times I find something new and wanting more.
I'm really grateful and glad that each of the step along the way God has provided welcoming hands and much to learn.
The cave and rock-climbing + the Big Boy was probably the coolest on the blog.
Hope to see you two soon.

And, I want more!!!!!!

Great to hear you made it to Kentucky. Carl and I were figuring out where you two were in comparison to the schedule. Looks like you guys are a bit ahead! Gives you a chance to enjoy people and places like Lou-a-vulle. Keep it up! You both are getting there!

It is so cool how God takes a most ordinary summer night and turns it to something special…with or without a Boa. It was a pleasure to welcome Aaron and Les in to our home. We will be following your progress and keep you guys in our prayers. God bless.

Wow, almost caught a Boa Constrictor! Bet the neighbors would have been real graetful! A little bigger than Alli's Cleopatra?
Have always wanted to visit Kentucky to see the green pastures and the horses grazing. Pet one for me, won't you and of course send pictures!
God is faithful, Kathy & Mark

Donald Miller (author of Blue Like Jazz) tours the country too! But why?

Please think about supporting Don and his team as they tour the country and raise funds for wells in Uganda.
