A leisurely day--a much needed break!

Cortez, Colorado

Ok, don't ever let anybody tell you that resting is lame, because it is not.  That person obviously hasn't done anything physically exerting!

Days and days of riding start to take a toll on a person, and since les and I are persons we paid the large toll and got a motel room the moment we dropped into Cortez on Saturday night.  It was needed, well worth it, and very very nice to get a shower (we hadn't bathed in 4 days, or so, and when you're riding all day and constantly re-applying sunscreen over salty limbs and necks, well, a shower is like Christmas).

We slept until a reasonable hour.  We called a couple churches (oh right, Sunday happened to be our day off) to find out when their services were, packed up, checked out, ate discounted bread rolls with yogurt from the grocery store, and rolled down the street to a local church.

Afterward les and I decided we would just relax.  We made ham and avocado sandwiches (DON'T JUDGE! they were actually pretty good!), and then parted ways for an hour or so.  Les went out to find a bike shop, thrift store, and a wal-mart, and I went to a local internet cafe.

After an hour or so les arrived and we stashed our bikes outside this garden/indie cafe/chill zone/gift shop

The Let It Grow internet cafe has to be one of the coolest places I have ever been.  One of its most interesting aspects is its enormous garden.  There was seating both inside the store and outside among the various plants.

les and I are dreamers, and we now want to own a cafe just like this place...I know, I know, one thing at a time!

Oh, and here is a little word of advice, which I, Aaron, learned the hard way: don't drink 3 to 4 cups of coffee after a week of physically exerting yourself more than your body is used to, and after having not drank coffee in at least two weeks.  While I justified my refills by the fact that I was there for about 4 hours (a cup an hour, that's ok...right???), after the last I felt like I was going to...umm...float away?  Yeah, it was a weird sensation.  I was out of it for sure.  I am sure the combination of my tired muscles and all the raging caffein led to a battle within me larger than Gettysburg.

But suffice it all to say that both les and I had a wonderful day off.  My idea of a good day is getting to do precisely what we did: sleep in a little, eat food, chillax in a cafe reading books and writing nonsensicalities on my computer, and then sleeping again.

Here is the church we went to.  It was called Lifeway Baptist.  Not our forte, but it was great anyway.

End of the day...

...

ok fine, we got a little antsy so we rode up the road another 10 or 11 miles to Delores where we found a decent (but way overpriced) campground to crash at.  The owner was a giant, literally.  We rode past the front office (it was after hours) and decided to just pay the fee in the morning.  But from the deep dark shadows came an older gentleman that seemed to get taller as he got closer and closer.  He was really kind, matter of fact, and drove to our actual site in a golf cart (we followed him on our bikes getting dirt in our eyes and coughing...but he was a nice guy and gave us a spot that was directly in front of Dolores River).  We woke to the sound of birds and rushing water, very nice!

May our Father continue to go before you.

Hey!

I didn't pay attention that you ever start your trip across the US! 4 of my friends just finished the trip from France to China after 9 month, and an other one start! I don'y know you Les, but spent one party with Aaron in SF last year. I like this kind of trip, hope I could do my own from Montreal to Vancouver after studies. So I wish you the best during your ride : meeting, landscape...
Aurélien, following you from the Alpes mountains in France

This adventure sounds amazing! Small coffee shops, avocados, cheap motels, what more could you want? Haha. Glad you guys are doing well!

If you think of it, please pray for Co(-) the next 3 weeks. We aren't going Tuesdays due to TEE Time being on poverty, so pray for our friends down in Long Beach!

Have an amazing time guys!!

oh, and if you open up a cafe, can I apply to work there as a waitress? I'd be well equipped, being a theatre major and all...
