Day 10 - Dolores to Telluride, Colorado
65 Miles (mostly climbing)
Careful to redeem every last dollar we paid to stay at the Dolores River Campground, we spent the morning taking long showers and making warm oatmeal, while using the internet and buying a spatula for future pancake attempts. It was a morning well utilized, especially after the unexpected thunder and lighting that jolted us our of R.E.M. at 2 in the morning. When we started hearing the drip-drop-drip of the June-Monsoon showers, we both burst out of the tent and speedily covered the bikes and the tent with our extra tarps.
Our tent the next morning: dry.
We covered the bikes for good measure. (Can you find les?)
On the road, we saw some fantastic sights. What luscious green hills and ranches! The air was so clean and crisp. The prevailing sounds were natural water rushing, real-live birds chirping and 100% beef cows grazing. Colorado, in short, is beautiful.
We road along a river all day. Awesome.
This would make a good support vehicle. *cough - tyler madsen - cough*
Waterproof? Close enough.
If it's not PB, it's baked beans. Must. Eat. More. Food.
Aaron said he was cold. I think he wanted to rob a train.
Not much else happened. We climbed and climbed. Thought about the struggles in life and parallels to cycling. We climbed.
Looking back from the summit of today's climb.
Then we got to Telluride and ate.
We consumed an entire bag of frozen burritos in one sitting. Never to be repeated.
When we started to look around for a campground to set up the tent, we met a delightful family - Romona & Kent, daughter, Soleil and cat, Rio - who let us stay in their spare apartment. They offered us a shower, laundry and warm beds. What a pleasant gift. Thank you, guys.
Tomorrow, we head to Montrose, CO, 65 Miles of easy, downhill, Rocky Mountain cycling.
