And we're off!

Well, the send-off was a complete success!  Les and I both want to extend a huge thanks to all who came out and supported us.  After we left we were thinking about all of you and were feeling so blessed to know that so many people actually care about us and this ridiculous endeavor!  Really, THANK YOU!!!

Here it is: the Pacific Coast Tire-Dip

Thanking God for life.

A group shot of all in attendance

...and we made it!

ok not really, but this is in Redlands (our first stop) and we thought it was cool to see a "New York" sign so soon.

Tomorrow (6/15) les and I are going to arrive in Indio, which, if you are staying up on your homework, is only 65 miles.  The decision had to be made over whether we would do 65 miles, or 113 all the way to "desert Center."  For a few reasons we chose the former:  a) it's the desert, which means it's hot, obviously; b) another shorter ride on the front-end of the trip would probably do us some good in the long run; c) this expedition is not about how fast/far we go at all.  les and I decided a long time ago that this trip is about adventure, and if we fall behind we can always catch ourselves up.  We shall remain as faithful to the bicycle as we possibly can, but we think it is wise to take day 2 easy also.

Anyway, Redlands was wonderful.  Alli's parents were incredibly kind in offering us a place to sleep and a nice, delicious, home-cooked meal, which made day-1 all that much more peaceful and pleasant.

something to think about: what is the only speed faster than light-speed?

Godspeed! Is Godspeed faster than lightspeed? Is that the answer?

Well anyway, too bad you guys aren't biking north... But don't forget we left a prize for you in NY last year.

May you both be blessed and a blessing to all you meet.

Donald Miller (author of Blue Like Jazz) tours the country too! But why?

Please think about supporting Don and his team as they tour the country and raise funds for wells in Uganda.
